About the Breach
Independent Living Systems provides services to many different health care organizations and providers throughout the country. You as a patient may not recognize their name, but they may provide support to your doctor or health care system and have access to your information.
In September, Independent Living Systems announced a security breach to their system that exposed the information of 501 patients to hackers. On March 15, 2023, they updated that information to advise that the actual number of patients who had their personal information stolen is 4,226,508. The data accessed includes patient names, addresses, dates of birth, driver’s licenses, Social Security numbers, financial account information, medical record numbers, Medicare or Medicaid ID’s, CIN#s, treatment information, food delivery information, diagnosis information, admission and discharge dates, prescription information, billing information, and health insurance information!
Data breaches are serious matters that can cause long term damage. Hackers break into networks so that they can steal your personal information to sell it on the dark web, commit identity theft, financial theft or other frauds.
